Florence, Ky. (May 19, 2017) — Laura Lyons, president and owner of ATech Training, has been elected to the Gateway Community & Technical College Foundation Board of Directors. “We are pleased to welcome this talented community leader with a heart for education to the board,” said Jim Parsons, chair of the Foundation Board. Lyons leads ATech Training, a manufacturer in the automotive technology training market. She has over 30 years of manufacturing experience with a majority in management positions. Prior to ATech, Laura worked for R.A. Jones, a packaging machinery manufacturer, and served in the U.S. Army. “I am honored to be working with others who share the commitment to serve Gateway and our community,” Lyons said. Lyons is a member of the Automotive Training Manager’s Council, North American Council of Automotive Teachers, California Automotive Teachers, Automotive Service Association and Downtown Cincinnati, Inc. She serves on the Automotive Training Managers Council (ATMC), North American Council of Automotive Teachers (NACAT) Education Foundation, Advanced Manufacturing Workforce Development, and Gateway Raise The Floor boards. She has served on Northern Kentucky University MBA Advisory Committee and volunteered on youth diversion projects in Kenton County. Lyons holds an Associate of Science degree from the University of Cincinnati, a Bachelor of Science degree from Hawaii Pacific University and a Master of Business Administration degree from Northern Kentucky University. Lyons began her service on the board this month. Over 20 community leaders serve on the Gateway Foundation board representing a broad array of industries and organizations that partner with Gateway. ### Gateway Community and Technical College is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges to award the associate degree. GCTC is Northern Kentucky’s only public, two-year comprehensive community and technical college, and its SACS accreditation has been reaffirmed through July 2023. SACS is a U.S. Department of Education-recognized agency that evaluates academic programs at two-year and four-year institutions to ensure the quality and acceptability of each institution. SACS accreditation means that Gateway students can transfer their course credits to four-year colleges and universities throughout the nation. Gateway enrolls nearly 5,000 students and offers associate degrees, diplomas and certificates in 30 subject areas. Classes are provided at GCTC locations in Boone County, Covington, and Edgewood. Through partnerships with more than 400 local businesses, GCTC provides customized, short-term training to more than 3,000 other people.
